About Amorgos
Amorgos is one of the Cyclades Islands in the Aegean Sea, and is home to two ports; Katapola in the south, and Aegiali in the north, both with ferries available with AFerry.com.
One of the most stunning places to visit on Amorgos is the monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa, which is north of Chora. Amorgos is also an excellent location for walking, with many routes crossing the landscape.
There are many breathtaking beaches in Amorgos, ranging from secluded to busy, some sheltered, some near the towns. Most of them offer beautiful blue seas, and comfortable sandy shores, and are a superb way to relax on a visit. Amorgos' beaches have such a reputation that Luc Besson chose them as the place to film The Big Blue. Amorgos is also home to many restaurants and tavernas serving a variety of cuisines, and in the larger towns you'll also find cafés and cozy bars/nightclubs.
Getting There
By Car
There is a good road network around the island of Amorgos, meaning none of the towns are very far from either of the ports. Car hire and taxis are in good supply on Amorgos.
By Bus
Bus services operate between the main towns and villages, connecting Amorgos, Katapola, Agios Pavlos and Aegiali as some of the smaller villages. There are three buses operating daily during the peak season. |
