Balearia Overview

Balearia is one of Spain's leading ferry providers, formed in 1998 and acting as a bridge between the Balearic Islands and mainland Spain. Balearia ferries connect Spain with the Balearic Islands and Morocco using a commitment to the latest generation of high-speed ships.

Balearia has opened new ferry routes and supplied new ferries to attain its proud current position as the only ferry operator which joins all four Balearic Islands (Ibiza, Formentera, Majorca and Minorca) with mainland Spain. They provide daily ferry crossings between all the Balearic Islands to satisfy both tourist requirements and the needs of the island residents. Thanks to Balearia the island residents now see the ferry as a comfortable, reliable and competitive means of transport, both for travelling between the Balearic Islands and for trips to mainland Spain.

Routes

Balearia run ferry services from Barcelona to the Balearic Island ports of Alcudia (Mallorca), Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, San Antonio (Ibiza), Formentera and Ciutadella and Mahon (both on Minorca), all of which can be booked with AFerry.com.

Balearia ferries run from Denia on the Spanish mainland to Formentera, Ibiza, San Antonio and Palma de Mallorca. Now Balearia are offering ferry crossings from Valencia on the Spanish mainland to Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca.

There is also a Balearia ferry service between Algeciras, on the south coast of Spain, and Tanger in Morocco and the Spanish enclave of Ceuta available with AFerry.com.

You can also book a number of cross-island Balearia ferry crossings, such as Ibiza to Formentera or Alcudia to Mahon, with AFerry.com. For a full list of Balearia ferries see the timetable panel to the right.

Onboard Facilities

Balearia operate both fast and conventional ferries on some of their routes, allowing selection of the departure best suited to your needs. All of Balearia's fleet are well-equipped, with many of their boats offering a range of cabin and seating options, a bar/cafeteria, and TV facilities. Some Balearia ferries have shops selling perfume, confectionery and cosmetics, and some have full restaurants.

More recently, in 2009 Balearia ferries have introduced brand new ships under the brand name Balearia + as part of their continual commitment to improving the fleet and its onboard services. These Balearia + ships are an excellent mixture of innovation and design, and thereby provide passengers with ultimate comfort and stylish onboard services.

Balearia History

Set up by a group of former executives, captains and officers of the shipping company Flebasa, Eurolinies Maritimes commenced operations under the brand Balearia in July 1998. The new ferry operator Balearia immediately prepared a plan of action for the expansion and modernization of the fleet, which included the acquisition of new ships. All Balearia personnel are committed to provide quality service, reflected today in high levels of security, service and customer care.

Initially, Balearia operated the Denia to Ibiza and Palma routes (ferry services), Ibiza to Formentera (ferry services and high-speed vessels), Ibiza to Palma (ferry services) and Denia to Ibiza (ferry and Ro-Ro services). Those routes were completed with the Valencia-Palma route (Ro-Ro cargo traffic) which was inaugurated in June 2000. The last Balearic route to be added was between Alcudia and Mahon, which Balearia has operated since July 2002. The inclusion - in June 2001- of a super fast high-speed ferry that operates the Denia/Ibiza/Palma route and also performs direct services from Denia to Palma, has meant a complete change in communications between the Balearic Islands.

Balearia still aims at expansion and growth, and is working on future projects such as the incorporation of new lines and the enlargement of its fleet. In June 2003 Balearia launched the super fast high-speed ferry Ramon Llull, built at the shipyard Rodriquez. Furthermore, at the beginning of year 2003 Balearia created the Nautas Al-Maghreb company, began a new maritime route, Tangier toAlgeciras, operated by a super fast ferry. The quality, frequency, and competitiveness of the services of Balearia over the routes it manages have allowed this shipping company to position itself as a leader in the traffic within the islands - both in terms of passenger volume and sales - and as the absolute leader in the Balearic Islands by passenger volume.
