About Castlebay
Castlebay, located in a wide sheltered bay is the main settlement on the Isle of Barra. As the name suggests there is a Castle in the bay of Castlebay. This is the Kisimul castle, the ancestral home of the MacNeil clan on the island.
Castlebay was once a thriving fishing town with herring being the main catch. Castlebay offers some splendid panoramic views if you can take a short but steep walk up to the top of the town.
Castlebay also offers full range of facilities to the visitors including hotel, B&Bs, shops, banks and a post office. There is a tourist information centre on the main street near the ferry terminal where you can find information on places to visit, stay etc.
Book your Castlebay ferry crossing simply and securely online in real time and with instant email confirmation on AFerry.com.
