DFDS Seaways Overview
DFDS Seaways - "Det Forenede Dampskibs- Selskab" (The United Steamship Company) - is the oldest, large shipping company in Denmark founded in 1866. DFDS Seaways currently sails to England, the Netherlands, Norway and Denmark. DFDS has provided passenger services for more than 140 years, and has a fleet considered one of the largest in Northern Europe. Many passengers consider DFDS Seaways unrivalled in service and quality of facilities onboard.
DFDS Seaways currently operate seven modern passenger ships. In a year, they transport approximately 1.9 million passengers and 200,000 cars on the six ferry routes traversing the sea between Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and the UK. DFDS aims to expand its position as a leading freight and passenger liner shipping company in Northern Europe.
Routes
On the Kattegat Sea, the ferry operator DFDS Seaways operates the ferry route Copenhagen (Denmark) to Oslo (Norway). On the North Sea, DFDS Seaways operates the ferry routes Esbjerg (Denmark) to Harwich (UK) and Amsterdam (Ijmuiden) (Netherlands) to Newcastle (UK).
Please note: The DFDS Seaways route between Bergen/Haugesund/Stavanger and Newcastle has ceased operating, as of the 1st September 2008.
Onboard Facilities
Although all the DFDS Ferries are different in size and although each ferry has its own charm, the quality of service and the high standards of facilities on board are the same on all ferries. All ferries offer a wide range of onboard leisure for you to enjoy such as live entertainment, bars and restaurants and business facilities.
Newcastle to Amsterdam
This route is served by the cruise ferries Princess of Norway and the King of Scandinavia. The onboard facilities and attractions include 3 bars, 3 restaurants, cafés, cinema, casino, kidz club, shops and conference facilities. The service operates throughout the year with a daily departure in both directions and the sailing time is 15 hours.
Harwich to Esbjerg
The cruise ferry Dana Sirena serves the route between Harwich and Esbjerg. This modern ferry joined the DFDS Fleet in 2003. This ferry service runs throughout the year with and connects the UK and Denmark 3-4 times weekly. The crossing time to between the port of Harwich and Esbjerg in Denmark is approx. 17.5 hours. The ship has 3 types of cabin, 3 restaurants, and entertainment lounge and Kidz' Club.
Copenhagen to Oslo
The cruise ferries serving the route Copenhagen to Oslo are the Crown of Scandinavia and Pearl of Scandinavia, two of DFDS finest vessels. Both cruise ferries can accommodate up to 2000 passengers. Both vessels operate a daily service, with departures at 17:00 in both directions, and a crossing time of approx. 16 hours 15 min. These ships have 4 restaurants, cafés, 5 bars, a cinema, and 2 clubs! |
