Ferries to Algeria - Destination Overview
Algeria is a country in North Africa. It is the largest of the three countries (including Morocco and Tunisia) which form the region of North West Africa known traditionally as Al Maghrib ("the West"). It is also the second largest country in Africa and the tenth largest country in the world in terms of land area, equal in size to Western Europe. It is bordered by Tunisia in the northeast, Libya in the east, Niger in the southeast, Mali and Mauritania in the southwest, and Morocco as well as a few kilometers of its annexed territory, Western Sahara, in the west. The capital of Algeria is Algiers. The terrain is mostly high plateau and desert, some mountains and narrow, discontinuous coastal plain. The climate is arid to semiarid which means mild, wet winters with hot, dry summers along the coast and drier with cold winters and hot summers on high plateau; sirocco is a hot, dust/sand-laden wind especially common in summer. The languages spoken are Arabic (official), Berber (national language) and French.
