Hebrides Overview
The Hebrides is a diverse archipelago off the western coast of Scotland, and are clustered into two main groups, the cluster closest to Scotland is known as the Inner Hebrides which include the islands of Islay, Skye, Jura, Mull Raasay, Staffa and the Small Isles. And the cluster furthest away from the coast of Scotland is known as the Outer Hebrides consisting of the isles of Barra, Benbecula, Berneray, Harris, Lewis, North Uist, South Uist and St. Kilda.
Many visitors to the Hebrides have said that the islands are amongst the most beautiful area of the British Isles. The landscape is rocky and mountainous with a rugged charm yet also lush and healthy, with many visitors saying that once the sun shines on the island that the views were just breathtaking. The islands of the Outer Hebrides are home to some of the most spectacular beaches in Scotland. Most of the western coasts of the islands are almost one long deserted beach, boasting some of the cleanest sands in the British Isles. The best beaches of the Outer Hebrides can be found be found on the islands of Barra Harris and Lewis, and because of these amazing coasts, the Hebrides Islands are quickly becoming a major fixture for water and sea sports, in particular both surfing and windsurfing. |
