About Iraklia
The ferry port of Iraklia is located in Aghios Georgios, the principle commercial centre of Iraklia. Iraklia is part of the Cyclades Islands, and is part of Greece. The Chora, or main town, of Iraklia is found on the centre of the island, about 3.5km inland.
Like many of the less well-publicised Cyclades islands, Iraklia is not yet a tourist hotspot, though there are some crowds relative to its small size in the summer, as it is a destination increasing every year in popularity and infrastructure. Iraklia is an island for those seeking Greek simplicity, beautiful sunshine and beaches, and that chance to walk amongst some pristine natural beauty. As with all the Greek islands you will find a number of friendly tavernas, serving good, traditional Greek food, as well as local speciality cheeses and yoghurts.
Iraklia Terminal Facilities
The ferry port itself has only limited facilities, but there are places to eat and drink close by. The port is in the heart of the main town on the island, Aghios Georgios, and as a result all the local amenities are easy available from the port.
Getting There
On Iraklia there is only a small road network, and few vehicles and limited public transport that use it. There are some hire vehicles available during peak season, but they are limited in number. In general the best way around the island is by walking, and as it is a small island, you are never too far from the port itself. |
