About Larne
Larne is an industrial sea port on the eastern coast of County Antrim in Northern Ireland. Many believe that the town's name was derived from a prince called Lathar, who was the son of an ancient Irish king, who gave the land to his son. The area soon became known as Lathar-na and was later anglicised to Larne. Archaeology of the region has produced remains and artefacts that point to an even older town from ancient times that lived close to the shores of the North Channel and traded with others around the coasts of Scotland.
