About Marseille
Located on France's south coast by the Mediterranean Sea, Marseille is France's second most populated city and the country's largest commercial port, with a longstanding history of trade. The city is the administrative capital of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region of France. Unlike the rest of Provence and the coast Marseille is not purely based around tourists, and life within the city continues all through the year. The city originally dates back to 600BC when Greek mariners from Asia Minor founded the port.
The Mediterranean Sea has many costal port towns each of them with their own character and appeal, and among them Marseille is truly one of a kind, and makes for a wonderful and memorable experience; Marseille is proud of its differences from the rest of France, and is the regional centre for culture, music and history. Marseille has theatres, five art galleries, a famous opera house (the famous Opéra Municipal), many bars, pubs, restaurants (with many local specialities), clubs and numerous museums celebrating Marseille's art and maritime tradition. The city is also home to its old port, and an array of fortresses, nearby islands, impressive churches and marinas,
