About Ponza
Ponza is the largest of the Pontine Islands, and is regarded by many of its visitors as a less-spoilt and cheaper version of Capri. The port of Ponza is found in a beautiful natural bay in the town of Ponza, and consists of several large docks.
Reachable in a few hours from Rome, Ponza boasts clean and smooth waters, and is an exclusive and fashionable island. There are many restaurants on Ponza, many of which are excellent, as well as some lively options for late-night drinking and dancing. Ponza's main appeal to visitors is its landscape, shoreline and warm atmosphere.
There is one large beach, Spiaggia di Chiaia di Luna (Half Moon Beach), as well as a few small tranquil ones such as Spiaggia delle felci and Frontone. There is a fascinating Roman tunnel that links the town of Ponza to the Chiaia di Luna beach, and there are historical ruins all over the island, including Greek, Estruscan and Egyptian remains.
Getting There
By Car
Ponza is only a small island (5.5 miles long!), and its road network allows you to easily reach the port from any part of Ponza.
By Bus
There is a bus service on Ponza, which runs from the ferry port in the south to Le Forna in the north of the island. |
