About Portsmouth
Located in the county of Hampshire, on the southern coast of England, Portsmouth is the only city to be situated on an island; it is also the historical home of the Royal Navy. Portsmouth is also home to the world's oldest dry dock that is still in use. The dry docks currently house three British ships, the H.M.S Victory which was Nelson's flagship at the battle of Trafalgar, the H.M.S Warrior and finally a World War One ship the Monitor M33. Whilst Portsmouth has declined as a military port in recent years, it still remains a major base for the Royal Navy.
Portsmouth is a unique waterfront destination with many things to do and see. Visitors can enjoy a mix of activities such as; shopping, dining in one of Portsmouth's many restaurants, or enjoy a walk around Portsmouth's historic dockyard and take in years of Maritime history. After this visitors may also enjoy a walk along Portsmouth's stunning waterfront and along the Victorian seafront of Southsea which offers a stunning view across the Solent.
If exploring Portsmouth's historic harbour isn't for you then why not climb the city's newest attraction, the Spinnaker Tower and take in the stunning views that it offers. The views from the 170m tall tower will take your breath away, as on a clear day visitors can see for up to 23 miles.
