SpeedFerries Overview
SpeedFerries offered the fastest ferry crossing on the Channel, just 50 minutes. This award winning all year, low cost ferry service was a car passenger ferry exclusively. No coaches, lorries or foot passengers were allowed on this cross channel crossing helping make the entire journey process as simple and quick as possible as SpeedFerries' customers can quickly and easily enter and exit from the port area and connect to the auto link road leading straight onto the main A16 and entire French motorway system.
SpeedFerries won the "Best European Crossing Operator" award in 2005 at the UK Telegraph Travel Awards just 18 months after the service was launched in May 2004. SpeedFerries received the "Best Ferry Operator" award at the Guardian, Observer and Guardian Unlimited's Travel Awards 2006.
On the 12th of November 2008 it was announced that SpeedFerries had been placed into administration, and unfortunately SpeedFerries ceased operating later in November 2008.
Routes
On the 25th November 2008 Speedferries ceased operations. Therefore SpeedFerries are no longer available to book with AFerry.com, However LD Lines have now taken over the route between Dover and Boulogne, please refer to LD Lines for further information.
SpeedFerries offered up to 5 daily return crossings between Dover (England, UK) and Boulogne (France).
As an alternative you can now book LD Lines ferries from Dover to Boulogne. This service started in Fenruary 2009 and has 2 crossings per day. From the 29th of May 2009, with the launch of a new catamaran, this will increase to 6 crossings per day. Please see our page on LD Lines by following the alternative operator link to the right.
Onboard Facilities
SpeedFerries' wave-piercing catamaran SpeedOne could accommodate up to 200 cars and 800 passengers. Whilst onboard you could relax in the cafe and enjoy a variety of hot or cold sandwiches, pastries and drinks or have a hot or cold drink in the bar. SpeedOne also featured an onboard shop which offers a wide selection of goods, spacious lounges, and a family section which includes a dedicated area for children and cartoon videos. From the Sundeck you could view the beautiful White Cliffs of Dover, Côte D'Opale or the sea. |
