For nearly 50 years, the AFerry family of companies has helped people and businesses cross the water by ferry - safely, simply, and with confidence. Our story began in 1977 with Transcamion, a family company founded in Munich and welcomed into the AFerry group in 2013. Today, led by James Howe-Davies (CEO) and Michael Howe-Davies (COO), following their father Chris, we have an excellent 6-strong leadership team that continues a proud tradition of 5 decades of innovation and trust.

From freight bookings to leading digital platforms, our mission stays the same - to make ferry travel straightforward. We connect millions of travellers to hundreds of routes and helping our ferry partners sell their services online with honesty and long-term partnership.

Our history

Five decades of ferries and innovation

1977-1996 - Transcamion and the Ro/Ro era

Transcamion began in 1977 as a pioneer in Ro/Ro freight ferry bookings. Working with operators across Europe and the Middle East, it set new standards for reliability and efficiency - powered by early IT systems and personal relationships that defined its reputation for service.

1997-2004 - Entee Global Services, WebRes and The Travel Gateway

In 1997, Chris Howe-Davies founded Entee Global Services, creating WebRes, one of the first online ferry and travel booking engines. It powered P&O Ferries, LD Lines (now part of DFDS), easyBus and easyHotel. By 2001, Entee evolved into The Travel Gateway, combining ferry and accommodation bookings, and in 2003 launched LCT Support Services to deliver port support across the UK.

2005-2008 - 2morrow Group and Ferrysavers

To unite these ventures, the 2morrow Group was formed in 2005, the same year we acquired Ferrysavers from Wyndham (formerly Cendant). The UK's best-known ferry comparison brand remains part of our family today. In 2008, James Howe-Davies became Group CEO, joined by his brother Michael as COO - guiding the next generation of growth and innovation.

2007-2013 - Real-world experience and Transcamion acquisition

Alongside our technology focus, we gained operational insight through HD Ferries (Channel Islands services) and HD Air Ltd (cargo and charter aviation). In 2013, Transcamion joined AFerry, combining nearly four decades of freight expertise with our digital distribution strength.

2017 - One brand: AFerry Ltd

In 2017, The Travel Gateway became AFerry Ltd, aligning the company with our flagship website AFerry.com. This rebrand reflected our focus on ferry travel and our goal to make booking simple, transparent and secure for everyone.

2018-Today - Growth, technology, awards and trust

Since 2018, AFerry has continued to expand globally, connecting over 100 operators including Balearia, DFDS, Brittany Ferries and P&O Ferries. Our teams in Oxford, Birmingham, Newhaven, Edinburgh, Madrid, Munich and Nice deliver technology and service that make ferry travel faster and more reliable.

From 2020 onwards

AFerry has been recognised as an industry leader for customer experience and trust, winning multiple World Travel Awards for "World's Leading Ferry Website" and "Europe's Leading Ferry Booking Website". These honours reflect our ongoing investment in people, technology and partnerships - and the confidence our customers show through our Trustpilot and Google ratings, both ranked `Excellent'.

Today, AFerry stands as the world's leading ferry comparison and booking service trusted by millions of travellers and operators alike. Ferry travel. Simplified. It's more than our strapline - it's our promise.
