Getting around in Barra
Boat trips to Mingulay, Eriskay and Barra Head can be arranged by Barra Boat Trips. There are also two car hire companies that operate on the island, which are by Peter Brown in Castlebay who will deliver the car to any part of the island and Margaret Macmillan who has a fleet of 15 cars. However, if unable or unwilling to drive then there is a choice from either taxi services that are available from Hatcher's Taxis.
When you arrive at Castlebay, Barra's main harbour town, you will see the Islands most famous landmark, Kisimul Castle. The castle was built by MacNeil of Barra in the 15th Century and remains in the family today.
Barra holds a number of events during the summer months including Barra Live, an island music festival, in July.
