GNV has introduced a new ferry, GNV Phoenix, increasing its fleet to 29 vessels and expanding capacity across its network.
The former Athara has now officially joined the fleet, supporting GNV’s continued growth and helping improve availability for ferry crossings, especially during busy travel periods.
A continued fleet expansion strategy
The arrival of GNV Phoenix is part of GNV’s wider plan to gradually renew and strengthen its fleet.
Built in 2002 and previously operated within the Moby Group, the vessel joins a series of recent additions, including GNV Altair and the upcoming GNV Pegasus.
This ongoing expansion helps GNV meet growing demand across its network.
A high-capacity ferry designed for passenger comfort
GNV Phoenix is a ro-pax ferry designed to carry both passengers and freight, offering:
- capacity for up to 2,700 passengers
- 319 cabins for overnight crossings
- 915 linear metres of cargo space
- a length of 214 metres
The vessel can carry up to 2,700 passengers, supporting high-capacity travel during busy periods.
Onboard spaces are designed to support comfortable travel, with facilities including:
- dining areas and self-service restaurants
- bars and lounges
- entertainment areas including a cinema
- spaces for families and children
This makes the vessel well suited for comfortable and flexible travel across a range of journeys.
Refitting planned before entering service
Before entering service, GNV Phoenix will undergo targeted refitting works.
These upgrades will focus on improving efficiency, enhancing passenger areas, and updating onboard services, ensuring the vessel meets GNV’s current standards.
What this means for your next ferry journey
The addition of GNV Phoenix is expected to:
- improve availability for ferry crossings
- support demand during peak travel periods
- offer more flexibility when travelling with a vehicle or freight
This is especially helpful during busy seasons, when crossings can fill up quickly and choice may be more limited.
With a growing fleet and more capacity being added, GNV continues to make ferry travel easier to plan. On AFerry, you can compare GNV ferry crossings, check availability and book your trip in just a few clicks, making it easier to find an option that fits your plans.
