Corsica Linea has confirmed the purchase of the RoPax ferry KALLISTE from La Méridionale, giving the vessel a new future after it had previously faced possible demolition.
Once refit works are completed in Marseille, the ship will join Corsica Linea’s fleet under the new name CAPU DI MARU.
Background of the KALLISTE ferry
Built in 1993 at Aker Finnyards, KALLISTE has been a familiar vessel in Mediterranean ferry operations for more than three decades. The ship has a capacity for around 500 passengers and offers more than 2,300 lane metres of cargo space, making it well-suited to mixed passenger and freight services.
During its time with La Méridionale, the ferry regularly served routes between mainland France and Corsica and was occasionally chartered to Corsica Linea.
The vessel has been laid up in Marseille since October 2025, following fleet adjustments and industrial tensions that led to plans for its potential demolition.
KALLISTE to become CAPU DI MARU
Corsica Linea’s social and economic committee recently approved the acquisition of the vessel, reportedly for around 4 million euros. Before entering service, the ship will undergo maintenance and upgrades at the Chantier Naval de Marseille, including repainting in Corsica Linea’s distinctive red livery.
Following these works, the ferry is expected to enter service in late April under its new name CAPU DI MARU, inspired by a scenic headland overlooking the Gulf of Ajaccio.
Possible charter of MASSALIA
Industry sources also suggest that Corsica Linea may consider chartering MASSALIA from La Méridionale later this year.
MASSALIA is the former NORMANDIE, a vessel acquired from Brittany Ferries by La Méridionale at the end of 2024. A potential charter could provide additional operational flexibility within Corsica Linea’s operations later in the year.
