Klemtu is a village on Swindle Island in the coastal fjords of British Columbia, Canada. Klemtu is the home of the Kitasoo tribe of Tsimshians, originally from Kitasu Bay, and the Xai'xais of Kynoch Inlet, a subgroup of the Heiltsuk people. Local legend has it that Sasquatch (the legendary "Bigfoot") have been spotted on the island, but these days Klemtu is better known for it's slightly less ethereal wildlife. Klemtu is located inside the Great Bear Rainforest, a large expanse of coastal temperate rain forest, known for it's abudant wildlife. Dedicated nature lovers could see grey wolves, grizzly bears, humpback whales, orca, deer, cougars, mountain goats, salmon, sea lions, sea otters, and the rare, cream-colored Kermode bear, or sprit bear.
About Prince Rupert
Prince Rupert is a city on Kaien Island in British Columbia, Canada, named after Prince Rupert of the Rhine, the first Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company. Prince Rupert is a great location for those who love to experience the great outdoors, and the area has plenty of hiking trails to get you out in the landscape. The best-known of these is Butze Rapids where, if you get the timing right, you could see the reversing rapids and maybe even a few hardy kayakers "surfing" them. McClymont Trail is another favourite trail, better suited to those who prefer their hiking a little more leisurely, while the Metlakatla Wilderness Trail is an amazing track, following the coastline for about 7 miles via a series of suspension bridges and viewpoint towers. Make sure you have a good map, appropriate clothing, and safety equipment before you head out.
