Red Funnel History

Red Funnel's origins trace back to 1861 when it was established as the Southampton, Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Company. Initially focused on providing mail and passenger services to the Isle of Wight, the company quickly became a cornerstone of connectivity for the region.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Red Funnel expanded its operations, adding more vessels to its fleet and accommodating the growing demand for passenger and cargo transport. The company's ferries became synonymous with reliable service across the Solent, playing a pivotal role in supporting both local communities and the burgeoning tourist industry.

Red Funnel Sustainability

Red Funnel is committed to sustainability, focusing on reducing its environmental impact while maintaining reliable services. The company invests in eco-friendly technologies, such as energy-efficient vessels and shore power systems, to lower emissions. Red Funnel also supports initiatives to protect the Solent’s marine ecosystem, promote waste reduction, and encourage sustainable tourism. By integrating green practices into its operations, Red Funnel aims to safeguard the environment for future generations while continuing to serve as a vital link between the Isle of Wight and the mainland.

Every thing was great except…

Every thing was great except we arrived early for our 18.00 ferry and asked to be allowed to go on the 16.30 ferry. We were told there was no room and told to come back in 20 minutes. I spoke to the loading guy who said there was loads of room and said go back to the kiosk and ask again. Did that and they then changed their mind and allowed us to board. So, why couldn't she allow us to board in the first place? All other staff were great.

The vibration of the table…

The vibration of the table was quite bad. Had to put the lids back on our coffee in case it spilled over.
