Ferries to and from Alonissos

Hellenic Seaways is one the largest and most well known of the Greek ferry companies. Their ferries are modern and offer a full range of facilities on board. As well as conventional ferries, for shorter routes the company also operates catamaran type vessels and fast ferries which can sometimes be 50% faster than other conventional ships.

ANES Ferries operates a fleet of two vessels, the Proteus and the Ag. Nektarios. Each ship has a full range of indoor and outdoor seating and lounges, and a range of snacks and refreshments are available on board.

Whatever route you take to or from Alonissos, you are certain to have a pleasant and relaxing journey with this famous Greek ferry company.

Alonissos Port

Patitiri is the actual capital and main port of the island of Alonissos. The old capital further inland was destroyed by an earthquake in 1965. Patitiri is a newly built village with modern buildings. It is well organised and is located in a natural harbour. In the vicinity of the port, you can find a large choice of hotels, rooms, tavernas and cafes.

Alonissos port facilities

Since Patitiri is only a small village, there are few facilities at the port itself. However, there are small shops and cafes within walking distance. Information about your ferry, if, for example, it is running late, can normally be obtained by asking for information from a member of the port police or any local travel agency where they normally have live-updates. You might also find signposted updates but this is not common in smaller islands.

Getting to the port

The port can be reached easily by road or on foot and is well sign-posted. Like on most small Greek islands, however, there are no street names. However, it is very hard to get lost on an island as small as Alonissos!

About Alonissos

The Sporades islands are known for being green and peaceful and of this group Alonissos is the most tranquil - even in the busier summer months. So if you're looking for a laid back atmosphere Alonissos is for you. Crystal clear waters and green pine trees are what characterise this island. And while small there are still abundant accommodation options and choices in terms of where to go out to eat.

The island is well suited to those that enjoy hiking, fishing, canoeing, or just relaxing. Alonissos is also home to the National Marine Park of Alonissos and the Northern Sporades which was the first marine park in Greece and is currently the largest marine protected area in Europe. Some spots are open to the public where you can go swimming, diving, and observe the wildlife. You won't be disappointed.
