It is also forbidden to carry goods or luggage on the roof of vans or passenger vehicles when transported for commercial purposes. Roof boxes containing personal belongings as part of a private or tourist trip are permitted. The transport of any type of export vehicles (cars and vans), new or less than 3 years old, is prohibited during the summer period only at the port of Algiers, but remains authorised at other secondary ports (Béjaïa / Skikda). Vehicles with more than 7 seats (cars or vans), not intended for export but transporting large families (at least a couple + one child), are accepted.
