Hibernia Line History

Hibernia Line is an Irish ferry company that launched its first ferry service in 2026. The company announced its new direct route between Ringaskiddy in Cork and Boulogne-sur-Mer in northern France in May 2026, with services beginning the following month.

The route was introduced for both passenger and freight travel, creating a new direct ferry connection between Ireland and mainland Europe. Hibernia Line began operating the service with two vessels, St Patrick and MV Akka.

Hibernia Line Sustainability

Hibernia Line aims to reduce the environmental impact of transport between Ireland and mainland Europe by providing a direct sea connection between Cork and Boulogne-sur-Mer.

For freight traffic, the direct route can help reduce the amount of road travel required compared with journeys using the UK landbridge or ports further west in France. By reducing road mileage, Hibernia Line aims to support more efficient supply chains and lower associated road transport emissions.

Hibernia Line also operates within European and international regulations designed to reduce the environmental impact of shipping, including requirements relating to vessel emissions and the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS).
