On January 1, 2005, the town of Notsuharu (from Ōita District) and the town of Saganoseki (from Kitaamabe District) were merged into Ōita. Currently Oita is the capital city of Oita Prefecture, on the island of Kyushu, Japan. In the city are several attractions such as fishing settlements, the mountain Takasaki-yama inhabited by monkeys and various onsen (hot springs of volcanic origin).
