Boston Harbor City Cruises, originally known as Boston Harbor Cruises, was established in 1926 in Boston, Massachusetts. Over the decades, the company expanded its fleet to 43 vessels, offering various services including sightseeing tours, whale watching excursions, private charters, and ferry services to destinations like Cape Cod.

In 2019, Boston Harbor Cruises was acquired by Hornblower Cruises & Events, a company with a history dating back to 1980. Following the acquisition, Hornblower rebranded its operations under the City Experiences umbrella, with City Cruises as a sub-brand. Today, Boston Harbor City Cruises continues to provide diverse maritime experiences in Boston Harbor, maintaining its legacy while benefiting from the expanded resources and expertise of the Hornblower Group.

Boston Harbor City Cruises demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability through various initiatives aimed at protecting marine ecosystems and reducing environmental impact. In partnership with the New England Aquarium, BHCC introduced the Ecoventure Cruise in April 2023, offering guests an up-close experience with marine life while safeguarding critically endangered North Atlantic right whales. This tour remains in coastal habitats closer to shore and travels at slow speeds to minimise disturbance to marine life.

As part of the City Experiences portfolio, they align with broader environmental initiatives, including the adoption of hybrid vessels and emission-reducing technologies. Notably, the company designed and built the first hybrid ferry in the United States, reducing fuel consumption by 75%.
