About Barcelona

The Port of Barcelona is a major port in Catalonia, Spain. The port is divided into three zones: Port Vell (the Old Port), the commercial and industrial port, and the logistics port (Barcelona Free Port).

The port also hosts many transport links to the main city, which makes it easy for travellers to explore. The port also offers services such as security controls, baggage handling, parking, duty-free shops and spacious check-in areas.

Barcelona Port has designated terminals based on your mode of travel. Whether you're a foot passenger or travelling with a vehicle, will determine your access point to the embarkation area.

About Civitavecchia

Civitavecchia Ferry Port has access to the most important national and European road and rail networks.

Civitavecchia (meaning "Ancient Town") took the brunt of the two World Wars because of its strategic importance as a Roman Port and in the due course, most of the city's archaeological treasures and old buildings were destroyed.

But, some of the interesting sites that still remain are the 16th century Fort Michelangelo and the Piazza Leandra along with some interesting hot spring baths from the Roman times.

The port of Civitavecchia is located on the west coast of the Italian peninsula, just 80 km from the capital Rome. The good location of the city, in the centre of the Mediterranean, has allowed the port of Civitavecchia to become one of the most efficient ports in Italy.

I was a little sceptical…

I was a little sceptical about travelling with Grimaldi lines again as my previous crossing from Italy to Greece was truly horrific fortunately this crossing was slightly better.Firstly boarding and the crossing plus disembarking was faultless.Virtually the whole boat had a dreadful smell of smoke and the customer facing staff in the breakfast area probably had the worst manners I have ever experienced.Even potentially planning to spend a substantial amount of money in the onboard boutique the Greek person in charge was truly shocking.

The ferry and cabin were…

The ferry and cabin were very clean. The food on board was also good. The staff wasn't very polite. Loading the vehicles was very slow. The wayfinding at the port was poor. We most likely won't travel with Crimaldi Lines again, as they no longer operate services to or from Genoa. Civitavecchia is far too complicated to reach from Germany. Cleanliness, order, and punctuality leave much to be desired with GNV.
