We'd booked a cottage, flights and hire car for a week’s holiday on Irelands west coast but after fog put an end to our flight and we thought our holiday we decided to call Norfolkline who 8hrs later had us and our car booked and driving onto the overnight ferry (or should I call it cruise?). From the moment we drove onto the ship everyone from the guys who helped us park on the car deck to the onboard staff bent over backwards for us. After booking into our cabin we had included in the price an excellent 3 course evening meal with a view from the restaurant window of Liverpool’s world famous skyline at night, the cabin was very comfortable with hot power showers, WC, basin and excellent beds. Next morning after a good night’s sleep we woke up to a full English breakfast or whatever you fancied (once again included in the fare) We then made our way to the car deck and 20 mins later we headed through the still quite streets of Dublin towards our dream cottage. The only downside (if it could be called so) was the children had such a great time on the ship they kept asking how many sleeps where left in the cottage till our next cruise!!!

The staff on Norfolkline are very friendly and helpful. We needed extra towels for our cabin and the staff on the reception desk were great. Boarding was easy and the cabins were basic but sufficient. There isn't much to do during the crossing in the day apart from the small cinema. The food was a bit like school dinners, functional that's all. There was only one cafe to buy drinks, coffee and small snacks and the range was quite limited. However, helpful staff, easy boarding, comfortable sailing made our journey enjoyable and norfolkine is especially great when they do value for money special offers. We wouldn't hesitate to travel with them again.

I attended Uni in Liverpool and the only way to get my gear across is by ferry from Northern Ireland. We opted for the Norfolkline ferry as it was the cheapest option. Thankfully the ship has a few entertainment options to keep you going, though certianly isn't a cruise ship by any stretch of the imagination. We also had a cabin which we booked onboard for slightly more than booking upfront for the 5 or so hour journey. The cabin was pretty comfortable and I got a decent amount of rest. Make sure you get a cabin though, my mum and Dad weren't quick enough to get one on the way back and had to sit in the bar all the way home - they weren't best pleased. Next time we'll be sure to book them up front.
