Siremar

Siremar is an Italian ferry company established in 1975 to connect Sicily with its surrounding minor islands. Initially a subdivision of the state-owned Tirrenia di Navigazione, Siremar was privatised in 2011. In 2016, it was acquired by Caronte & Tourist Isole Minori, enhancing its services across the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The company operates routes linking Sicily to the Aeolian Islands, Aegadian Islands, Ustica, Pantelleria, Linosa, and Lampedusa, as well as connections between Naples and the Aeolian Islands. Siremar's fleet comprises 15 vessels, including ferries and fast ships, capable of transporting both passengers and vehicles.

Siremar is actively enhancing its sustainability efforts. A notable initiative is the construction of a dual-fuel RoPax ferry. This vessel will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and batteries, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional marine fuels. Additionally, the ferry will feature a hull-integrated seawater cooling system, which utilises seawater to cool the ship's engines and auxiliary systems, thereby conserving valuable engine room space and enhancing energy efficiency.

Beyond fleet modernisation, Siremar is committed to environmental stewardship through the implementation of waste management practices aligned with international standards. The company ensures that waste sorting and recycling are conducted on all operational bases and aboard its vessels.
