The large car/truck/train ferry "Mecklenburg Vorpommern" travels from Rostock to Trelleborg in approximately 7 hours. Check-in, boarding, and disembarking are well-organized. Wi-Fi is available on board for a fee (49 SEK / approx. €4.50). Unfortunately, there are no shower facilities for passengers without a cabin booking. A good and varied breakfast buffet is offered in the large onboard restaurant for 155 SEK / approx. €14.10. Payment is by card only; cash is not accepted. In conclusion, the ferry is a recommended travel option for entering southern Sweden from Germany.

The staircase connecting vehicle deck…

The staircase connecting vehicle deck 3 to the cabin deck (our deck 3a) is a nightmare. This staircase, assuming we even find the right one, is as narrow as an attic ladder, winding past pipes and doors as if we were already in the engine room. The elevator is overcrowded. There are no signs indicating where access is blocked during restricted hours. Appropriate signage would be helpful.

Fast loading, good food on board, plenty of seating. The journey takes a while, though, giving you time to slow down.
